With Charleston, SC voted the number two wedding destination in America and best city in the world by Conde’ Nast, just 45minutes away, Edisto is gaining in popularity. As a destination for any event, Edisto is a wonderful place to celebrate with friends and family. Since there are no hotels on the island make sure you are planning well in advance so that guests will have time to secure housing. One thing to remember is that in the summer season most rentals will have a weekly minimum stay. If you are considering hosting your wedding or other event on Edisto, below are a few things to take into account.
Location, location, location Edisto has much to offer in the way of beautiful locations and scenery. There are a handful of plantations and homes that operate as event venues. As Edisto quickly becomes a destination wedding location, planning well in advance has become the norm. We see a lot of disappointed brides who think our rural island isn't a hot spot for weddings. They can’t find a venue and have to change locations.
Beach Weddings. If you dream of getting married on the beach, it’s pretty simple. No permit is necessary for a ceremony of less than 50 people. Chairs are allowed but must be removed before dusk. Renting a house for the party/reception. If you are planning on renting a large home to host a wedding or reception always be honest about your plans. Some homes do not allow events under any circumstances. You could possibly have to pay an extra event fee in addition to having to follow specific rules. You might be required to rent and have delivered to the house port-a-potties for the guests to use. This brings us back to being honest about your plans to the home owner or property manager. Yes, a 4,000 sqft house with 6 bathrooms is big enough to host 60 people for a rehearsal dinner. Its septic tank IS NOT!! I swear and promise to you, it can’t take sixty people flushing, hand washing, cooking, and making drinks. You want you to have the most beautiful wedding/rehearsal/birthday celebration ever, at a great price. You want it to happen, and not have your guests experience a sewage smell/ spill/ gurgling up from the ground on that wonderful day.
