Farmers & Seafood Markets

It may come as a surprise to learn a coastal island like Edisto is a farming community, but if you venture off of the main roads that fact is undeniable! Edisto and its families have a long, rich history of farming the land and harvesting it’s bountiful surplus of seafood and shellfish. If you are planning an extended stay on Edisto no meal would be complete without fresh "Edisto Sweet” tomatoes, local grits grown and stone ground on the island, or sweet shrimp or oysters harvested from our salty waters just hours before. Make sure to stop by, and ask for suggestions for produce or the best way to prepare seafood. Chances are the person you are talking to had a hand in harvesting it!
